Cold February continues

Tuesday, February 24th, 2009

Cold and windy, cold and windy – the broken record weather forecast continues as we near the end of the month. Everyone seems to have had enough of the winter, especially if it is not going to give us some serious snow. Time to move on to spring.

Spring for the older boys means lacrosse season. This week is the last week of pre-season training before the try outs and selection process which takes place next week. Although there is no pressure on the boys – Alex is assured of a varisty place, and Peter needs to be on the JV team rather than get an early promotion to Varsity – they are both rightly concerned about being really ready, so much so that Peter went to practice yesterday even though he was really full of the cold and should not have been out running in the sub-zero weather.

A few other home repair tasks, both here and at the in-laws, occupied my time this weekend, so no more progress on the cold frame. Maybe by next blog time ?

Lacrosse Sunday

Monday, November 24th, 2008

We are now into the short week of Thanksgiving, a three- maybe actually two and half – day work week. And I am really looking forward to four days of almost nothing – no sports, no travel ( not this year) and just hanging around. Of course the “to-do” list will need some attention paid to it, but otherwise I should have a simple time of it ( at least that is the expectation!).

A quiet weekend would be nice after yesterday’s long lacrosse day. Both Peter and Alex were playing – on two Wootton teams – at a lacrosse tournament held at the Episcopal School in Alexandria ( quite a place). Four games for each of them for us – Nancy and I went together – to watch. Tough competition, with each team only winning one of the four games, but good experience. The weather was really cold for a day out, but at least it was dry and sunny.

The weekend ended on a good note, with all of us around the dinner table watching the Redskins win a close one in Seattle.
